MUNDINE V GREEN II SET FOR ADELAIDE IN FEBRUARY 2017

25 Oct 2016

The greatest rivalry in Australian sport will be settled once and for all when Anthony Mundine and Danny Green square off under lights at the Adelaide Oval on February 3, 2017.

South Australian Minster for Tourism and Minster for Sport and Recreation Leon Bignell MP joined Mundine and Green to announce details of the fight that will see this great sporting rivalry re-ignite at the spectacular Adelaide Oval next February.

“Securing the Mundine versus Green rematch is a huge coup for South Australia, with Adelaide knocking out fierce interstate competition to host this boxing blockbuster,” Mr Bignell said

“Anticipation for this event has been huge and this fight will captivate the nation.

“The event will pump more than $4 million into the State's visitor economy, with thousands of visitors expected from all over the country. At least 4.5 million people are also expected to view the fight.”

About 34,000 fans packed into the Sydney Football Stadium on May 17, 2006 to see Mundine (47 wins/ 7 losses) claim a unanimous points decision over Green (35 wins/ 5 losses) in their first bout.

Now, after 10 long years, “The Green Machine” has an opportunity to avenge that defeat and affirm his legacy as one of Australia’s greatest all-time fighters.

“It has taken much longer than I anticipated to make happen, but I’m glad Anthony has finally fronted up for this fight that all of Australia wants to see,” Green said at today’s press conference.

“He has shot his mouth for a long time now and I’m delighted to finally have the chance to shut him up once and for all.”

“I would like to sincerely thank the South Australian Government for their support in making this fight come to life.

“The Adelaide Oval is the best sporting ground in the country and it’s only fitting that I get the chance to knock out Anthony in front of a stand named after our greatest sportsperson ever – Sir Donald Bradman.”

For Mundine, this bout presents an opportunity to prove once and for all he is “The Man”.

Since that night in 2006, Mundine has gone up and down in weight with mixed fortune.

A win over Green will not only silence his critics, but prove once and for all he is Australia’s undisputed king of the ring.

“The people have been asking for it and I think it’s time now to prove to Danny once and for all that I am the man,” Mundine said.

“He had excuses the first time we fought and I’m sure he will find more excuses when I finish him again this time around.”

“I’ve spent a lot of time in South Australia over my career and am honored to have the chance to show my fans down here what I’m capable of,” Mundine said.

Further details on the undercard and affiliated events related to Mundine v Green II will be advised over the coming weeks.

Tickets for this must-see sporting event will go on sale at 9am on Thursday, October 27 through Ticketek.
